Release Pictures for the First 250 mile YB Race
Birds were released at 8:30. Pictures are courtesy of Jim McNally, from Youngstown, OH, that drove out to watch the release with his grandson. He stayed around for about 12-15 minutes, as 60-70% of the birds circled in a few separate huge groups. One small group, of about 120 birds left after about 4-5 hooks, and the rest continued to circle as he left for home. The birds that remained there circling, would clash together, but then separate, instead of getting their bearings to head for home.  So the majority of the birds did not get a good start. Off in the far distance, there was fog to the SE, but it was better to the straight East. When he called me after the release, he predicted a slow race, and the returns would be spread out.
